Jacob Ebert Claims Central Missouri Speedway B-Mod Special Event as Lyle, Murdock, Wood, and Ryun also Score!

(Warrensburg, MO) Night number one of the Labor Day weekend at Central Missouri Speedway is now in the books and after all was said and done, Jacob Ebert walked away with the headlines by capturing the B-Mod $1,500-to-win special event. In other action, Chad Lyle, Johnny Murdock, Brett Wood, and Jason Ryun also drove to wins in their respective classes as 107 cars filled the pits in five divisions.

The night began with 15 preliminary heat races and two b-mains to determine starting grids for the night’s main events. Pure Stocks began the night with Darrin Christy and Kyle Rowland claiming victories. A strong field of 20 Street Stocks competed throughout the night with Brett Wood, Brian Inlow, and Dean Wille driving to heat race wins. Merril Lamb of Iola, Kansas and Johnny Murdock of St. Louis claimed Allstar Midget Series victories while Brian Johnson, Chad Lyle, Tim Karrick and Kyle Covert captured the USRA Modified heats.

In the B-Mod special event prelims, Jacob Ebert began the night strong when he bested Brad Smith and Chad Lyle in heat ne. Fort Scott, Kansas driver Brian Bolin scored the win in heat two over Brett Wood and Jim Moody. For heat three, Dakota Foster led Chad Staus and Russell Niehoff. In the final preliminary heat, Tim Powell of Lansing, Kansas finished ahead of Joshua Stephens and Jake Richards. Curtis Berry and Spencer Stephens led the way in the two b-mains.

Pure Stocks kicked off the second half of the program with their 12-lap main event with a pair of former feature winners leading the way as Darrin Christy and Kyle Rowland led the field into turn one. Rowland quickly grabbed the lead with Christy, Jimmy Smith, and Jason Ryun close behind. By lap five, Rowland and Christy were having the race of the night as they battled door panel to door panel for several laps just before a yellow flag flew to slow the pace.

When action resumed, Rowland led Christy, Ryun, Smith, and Jeremiah Wilson for the restart. Christy again went on the prowl and moved to the high side in search of a way around Rowland who held strong in the middle lane, warding off every challenge from Christy. Late in the race, Jason Ryun began to show some strength and made his way around Christy for second while Rodger Detherage, Smith, and Wilson continued their battle for fourth position.

In the final five laps, Ryun made his presence known and found a way around Rowland to grab the lead bringing teammate Christy with him to setup and outstanding drive to the finish that featured clean racing, drivers using their head, and keeping calm, cool and collected. In the end, fans were rewarded with the best race of the night as Ryun captured his second feature race of the season over Christy, Rowland, Detherage, Wilson, and Smith.

Street Stocks returned for their main event with a 20-car field taking the green flag as Dean Wille and Brett Wood occupied row one. Wood shot out to an early race lead with Wille, Brian Inlow, and Jay Prevete following close behind. By lap five, Wood built his lead to three car lengths over Wille, who also pulled away from a great four-car battle between Inlow, Prevete, Brandon Dunham and Brian Ziegler.

The first yellow of the event appeared on lap six when Prevete and Inlow tangled for a first time on the back stretch with both cars going to the tail for the restart. When racing resumed, Wood led Wille, Ziegler, and Dunham with Darrin Crisler and John Clancy making their way to the front.

Wood again began to build up his lead over the field as Crisler, Ziegler, and Clayton Campbell fought for spots inside the top five with a handful of laps remaining. Just passed lap ten, an otherwise good race took a turn for the worse as a series of events saw Inlow and Allen Perryman all retiring from the race. Another wild incident occurred on the restart coming off of turn two when Clayton Campbell was punted from behind causing him to spin out of the top five as Clancy, Ziegler, Carter, and Prevete were all involved.

When the race resumed, Wood again led Wille in second position as Crisler moved to third with Bobby Ruff and Brian Eckhoff now inside the top five. During the final few laps, Wille’s car came alive and he put pressure on Wood for the victory; however, in the end, Wille simply ran out of laps despite being the faster car as he finished second behind Wood, who scored his seventh feature win of the season. Crisler finished the night with a strong run in third, followed by Ruff, Eckhoff, and Derek Henson, who advanced to the top five from 16th on the starting grid.

A ten-car field of Allstar Midgets returned to the track for their 15-lap main event as Johnny Murdock and Merril Lamb showed the way. Murdock led the opening two laps before Austin Lambert of Claremore, Oklahoma advanced to the front. By lap nine, Lambert had built up a whopping half of the track advantage over Murdock and Lamb.

On lap 12, the lone yellow flag of the race appeared for debris in turn four just as Lambert’s night came to an unfortunate end as he stalled on the front stretch. With the field now being led by Murdock, the race resumed as Lamb settled into second. In the closing laps, veteran racer Bobby Lane moved inside the top three behind the lead duo. In the end, Murdock was too strong at the finish by prevailing over Lamb, Lane, Robert Bell, Brad Wyatt, and Paden Moreland.

For the USRA Modified a-main, Brian Johnson and Chad Lyle led the charge with Johnson in search of his first 2016 win while Lyle gunned for his second modified win of the season. Johnson jumped out to an early race lead but it only lasted a brief second as a scary incident occurred coming off of turn two involving several cars. With challenging track conditions, several cars got together coming off the turn two area triggering a multi-car crash. After the cleanup completed, the cars of Tim Karrick, Danny Scrogham, Dwight Niehoff, Scotty Martin, Travis Ruff, and Bill Carter were unable to continue on. Thankfully, although shaken up and sore from the safety belts, all drivers while disappointed checked out okay from the Emergency Services responders.

After a long delay, racing resumed with another yellow flag flying on lap two as Nick Pence’s car spun in turn three just in front of Bubba Harvey and Tyler Schmidt. In a separate incident Robby Test encountered problems in turn two as all these competitors also retired early from the event.

With drivers on edge, racing again resumed with Johnson, Lyle, Shad Badder, and Kyle Covert close behind. It didn’t take long for Lyle to assume command of the race as he edged Johnson for the lead with Badder, Covert, and Nathan Vaughn running in the top five. By lap nine, Lyle pulled out to a five-car length advantage with Johnson and Badder comfortable in their top three spots. However, behind them, a furious battle ensued with Jim Moody and Kevin Blackburn making their way towards the front challenging for the top five.

A late-race yellow for a stalled car slowed the field one final time giving drivers one more try at dethroning Lyle at the top. Johnson stayed close on this restart and pressured Lyle while Moody found a way around Badder to take third. Moody fought hard to gain second on Johnson for several laps as Blackburn also went around Moody in the closing stages. In the end, Lyle scored his second triumph of the year over Brian Johnson, who finally was able to shake some bad luck to score his best finish of the year in second. Moody settled for third with Blackburn advancing to fourth from 16th on the starting grid. Badder, Vaught, Covert, Colson Kirk, Mickey Burrell, and Chase Domer completed the top ten.

The final event of the night was the annual track special $1,500-to-win B-Mod special. After wrapping up another B-Mod championship a week ago, Jacob Ebert was in search of his first big-money special event win at CMS when he and fellow front-row driver Chad Staus led the field to the initial green flag.

Ebert shot out to an early race lead with Staus, Jim Moody, and Brian Bolin giving chase. Dean Wille’s night came to an early end as he retired on lap one. With Ebert leading the race, Staus, Bolin, and Tim Powell had a scorching battle inside the top five with clean racing side-by-side. Ebert eventually built up a six-car length lead over the field with Dakota Foster and Moody inside the top three.

Yellow flag conditions flew over the field at lap six for a two-car spin in turn four. With the field bunched up for the restart, Ebert led them back to green with Foster, Moody, Staus, Bolin, and Powell inside the top five. Former CMS champion Brad Smith began to add his name to the mix by lap eight as he advanced to sixth. Moody began to pressure for the lead on the restart as his close battle with Foster saw him advanced to second leaving Foster in third just in front of Bolin, Powell, and Smith.

The field was slowed once again after a multi-car crash in turn one involving Heath Murry, Don Marrs, and Doug Wetzel. When the race resumed Ebert led Moody as the two drivers gave the fans some great close racing in a torrid battle for the lead. Through all the pressure, Ebert kept his car out front to maintain the lead.

Another quick yellow flag realigned the field on lap ten with Ebert showing the way over Moody, Foster, Bolin, Staus, Powell, Smith, and last week’s feature winner Nic Hanes. Smith continued his quest to break inside the top five as the final 15 laps ran green in the 25-lap main event. Ebert kept up a strong pace with Moody falling back into the clutches of Foster in their battle for second as the top three pulled away from fourth on back.

Powell and Hanes continued to fight for a spot inside the top five over the final five laps but the race took a dramatic turn with just two laps remaining as Jim Moody’s night came to an end in turn two when he unexpectedly retired from the event. With Ebert leading the final two laps in heavy lapped traffic he kept on the throttle and claim his ninth feature win of the season. Foster redeemed himself from last week and scored the runner-up position in front of a strong drive by Brian Bolin in third. Powell wound up fourth with Brad Smith completing the top five. Nic Hanes advanced to sixth from 23rd on the field just in front of Luke Nieman who came from 16th to finish seventh while Staus, Jake Richards, and Russ Niehoff completed the top ten.

The season comes to a close on Sunday night with the $3,000-to-win USRA Main Event, the night also features the ULMA Late Models in their second-to-last championship point’s earning race of the year. USRA B-Mods and the Allstar Midget Series are also set to race on Sunday. Some of the top USRA Modified drivers in the MO-KAN region will be on hand for this event and the best-of-the-best in ULMA drivers will race hard to earn valuable association points as their season comes to a close.

On Sunday night (Monday is a holiday), fans and drivers are invited to stick around for an after-race CMS Barn Party featuring karaoke and music by Char. Everyone is invited to close out the season with a night of music, fun. Although there are plenty of tables and places to hang out in the large facility, adult patrons are invited to bring a chair, coolers with beverages of their choice and snacks. No concessions will be available.

There are no “track registration fees” for any classes throughout the weekend; however, USRA drivers must have a USRA license or purchase a USRA temp license on-site in order to compete. ULMA Late Model drivers will also need to possess the ULMA yearly license or purchase a $10 temp license on site. There are entry fees for USRA Modified drivers on Sunday and B-Mod Drivers on Saturday.

There are no reserved pit stalls at CMS, pits fill up on a first-come, first parked basis. There is plenty of room in the pits; however, only race haulers/trailers are permitted in the pit area. Personal vehicles are not permitted in the pit area. Parts deliveries may be made; however, the drop-off vehicle must immediately exit the pit area after dropping off any parts, fuel, or other racing-related deliveries.

Primitive camping is permitted on the grounds of CMS. All overnighters must inform the pit office of their arrival and the location in which they will be camping. Camp fires are only permitted in containment fire pits. There are no dump-sites on the grounds.

Shad Badder will be on hand to help raise money for Homes for Our Troops as he will give 2-seater Modified rides for a charitable donation of $50 each for approximately 3 to 5 laps at speed around the track. The Homes for Our Troops volunteer crew will be on hand Sunday night raising funds for the organization and plans to raffle off a home-made patriotic themed coffee table (see website for picture). Homes for Our Troops builds homes for returning wounded and disabled veterans.

Sunday, September 4th - Track points awarded to USRA Modifieds. USRA Modifieds will also earn National USRA Points. ULMA Late Models will earn their sanction points. Allstar Midgets will earn their sanction points. USRA B-Mods will earn USRA National points only (track points will NOT be awarded to B-mods).

For Sunday, September 4th, Pit Gates open at 4:30, Grandstands at 5, Driver’s Pill Draw Cutoff 6:15 (no passing points for late drivers), Pit Meeting 6:30, Hot Laps at 7, and Racing at 7:30. Adult Admission is $15, Military w/I.D. $12, Seniors 65 and up $12 and College Students with student I.D. $12, Kids 6 to 12 years $5, children five and under and senior citizens 75 and over free, all Sunday night pit passes are $35.
