(Warrensburg, MO) The countdown to the 2017 CMS race season continues and it is time once again for drivers to register for the coming season for the track’s weekly race divisions, which includes USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mod-Lites, USRA B-Mods, and Pure Stocks.
Drivers may register and ask questions to staff and save $10 in the process for next season’s racing during early bird registration this Saturday, January 21st at the ABC Building on the Grounds of Grover Park in Warrensburg, Missouri. From Maguire Street (Hwy 13 through Warrensburg), take East North Street past the King's Chef Chinese Restaurant heading east. The ABC Building is on the right just past the tennis courts. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. For GPS directions, plug in 416 Commander Wilkes Drive, Warrensburg, Missouri 64093.
Also on Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., CMS, along with Lakeside Speedway will have a vendor information booth at the annual Racing Auction and Trade Show in Sedalia held at the Missouri State Fairgrounds. This year's dates are Saturday, January 21st and Sunday, January 22, 2017. The event is held at the Mathewson Exhibition Center located at 2503 West 16th Street, Sedalia, MO 65301. Personnel from CMS will be present all day on Saturday. Drivers may also register at this event and save $10 on registration. Printed car class and track rules, schedules, and general information will be available at both events this weekend.
Track owners and promoters Earl and Susan Walls begin their 22nd year at the helm of CMS in April. The 2017 CMS race season features 23 nights of racing from April 15th to September 3rd, which is the regular season, in addition to a brand-new two-night event in October, for a total of 25 race nights.
Recently, a few more of the support classes were determined for some of the big three summer holiday weekend special events and guest class nights. For guest class appearances, ULMA Late Models return on May 6th, May 28th, August 12th, and September 3rd. The annual Pure Stock track special event will take place on Saturday, May 27th with USRA Modifieds competing on May 28th for $3,000 to win.
CMS fielded numerous messages and questions during the off-season from E-Mod drivers interested in competing at CMS in 2017 and as a result, E-Mods will serve as a guest class at CMS on Sunday, May 28th, Sunday, July 2nd, and Sunday, September 3rd.
E-Mods have quickly grown in popularity in recent years and compete at I-35 Speedway, Valley Speedway, and Lakeside Speedway respectively. CMS believes that adding E-Mods on nights when the other tracks are not competing will help grow the class even more and give the drivers additional seat time while not interfering with their normal tracks’ championship points race nights while at the same time, giving the drivers additional chances to race in front of new fans. CMS will utilize the standard Kansas City-area E-Mod rules when the class competes at CMS.
USRA Modifieds and Mod-Lites headline the annual BBQ Bowl weekend over the Independence Day holiday. Modifieds will have two chances to make the 24-car starting field for the $5,000-to-win/$1,000-to-Start BBQ Bowl over the weekend. Mod-Lites will also run back-to-back nights with $500 to win on Saturday and $1,000 to win on Sunday. Additional details will be announced regarding Independence Day weekend and car classes competing.
Street Stocks take the spot light on two separate occasions in 2017, once on the weekend of July 15th when drivers compete in the annual Track Special Event for the class. However, a rare opportunity to race at CMS during October will take place on Friday, October 20th and Saturday, October 21st when the First-Ever $5,000-to-Win Street Stock Showdown takes place. The original dates were changed to avoid conflict with other area high-profile race events. Additional details will be announced later this spring regarding race format and support classes in addition to track activities for the weekend, which is sure to be one of the biggest events in CMS’s long and storied history!
The regular race season winds down over the Labor Day weekend when USRA Modifieds once again compete for $3,000 to win. USRA B-Mods also highlight the weekend with their annual track $1,500-to-win special event on Sunday, September 3rd.
The 2017 car class rules for Pure Stocks and Street Stocks have been posted on the CMS website at www.centralmissourispeedway.net. USRA Modified and USRA B-Mod rules are also available from the website. The tracks general race rules are also available on line. Mod-Lite rules are expected to be up on the site after this weekend.
The Pure Stock rules have been amended since the original publishing date last month. After calls and comments came in regarding drivers having difficulty finding cars that are not rusted out, CMS decided to amend the rule as follows: OEM floor may be repaired or replaced with 0.049-inch steel but must remain OEM dimensions. Firewalls must remain OEM and in OEM location. allow after-market floor replacement.
